Advice from Cambridge Constabulary to reduce the risk of burglaries
- Keep keys, wallets etc away from windowsills and out of sight
- Keep windows and doors locked, and in locked ventilation positions
- Consider overall security of your home - what are the weakspots? Consider a burglar alarm, window and door locks, security lights and strong locks and bolts on side access gates
- If you have bikes and other items of value in sheds, use a padlock on the outside. Consider locking items together, fixing to the floor and linking to the house alarm system
- If going away, make your house look lived in while you’re away with timer switches on lights and radios.
- Consider property marking your valuables (eg www.smartwater.com)
- Take photos of valuables and irreplaceables in case the worst happens - record their details and keep with the images in a safe place in case of insurance claims

Cotton Farm Wind Farm planning application by nPower - your Parish Council’s response
Yelling Parish Council, (‘YPC’), met on
YPC objects to the proposal because of the unacceptable adverse impact the wind farm would have on (a) the character of the landscape, (b) the setting of listed buildings (c) visual intrusion, recreational and residential amenity and (d) social and economic factors.
In reaching this determination the council considered the views of parishioners expressed at village open meetings, letters received and the results of a house-to-house survey which indicated that the overwhelming majority of parishioners opposed the proposal. It should be noted in addition that the opposition expressed by village residents mirrors the decisions reached by the councils of neighbouring parishes.
NATS Consultation and Yelling - the Parish Council’s stance
At its last meeting, the Parish Council discussed the proposed changes to aircraft stacking prior to arrival at Luton Airport. Under certain conditions, up to 8 aircraft would hold in a pattern above Yelling and surrounding villages. This was in response to the opportunity to participate in the consultation process.
The council responded to inform NATS that it was opposed to the proposals for the following reasons:
-
The potential for noise pollution
-
The potential for air pollution
-
The intrusion on the village’s peaceful tranquility
-
There was no discernible benefit to the community
-
Inconsistent or incomplete information in the proposal
-
Inadequate consultation
For further information, contact the Clerk.
